In a formal place setting, there are often multiple forks; each has its own purpose. There is a dinner fork. There is a salad fork. There is a fish fork. When I was growing up, I didn't know these details. To me there were big forks and my fork, the little one. While I still prefer a little fork, I've now graduated college and landed a job. Perhaps next I'll eat with a dinner fork.
